Use this form to register as a Social Mobility Foundation mentor for sixth-form and S5 students.

This short form asks for some personal information to start your mentoring journey.

This is so we can:
  • Contact you
  • Understand your job role and the sector you work in (we match our mentors to mentees who aspire to similar jobs)

A note on autosaving
This form autosaves your data at some points. Any applications not completed, or those submitted after the form closes, will be deleted from our records after three months.

Your data
Please see our Privacy Policy for more information about how we store and use your data. Email privacy@socialmobility.org.uk with any questions or to request your data.

Please select your closest city.

Please select the sector above which best aligns with your role. We consider all matches individually. If the sectors shown don’t neatly align with yours – we will look at all of the information you give us, alongside our students’ aspirations.

Due to the nature of our mentoring, please note that for the school age mentoring scheme we cannot accept applications from teachers. Anyone working for the civil service or in the third sector, please select ‘Politics’ as your sector choice.

To be a mentor, you will need to have at least 6 months of experience of working within your professional sector, as increasing knowledge of the career sector will be the basis of the mentoring relationship. We also accept PhD students for our Biology and Chemistry sector and third year medical students and above for our Medicine sector.

It's always great to see a returning mentor!
Let us you know you want to continue by emailing: mentors@socialmobility.org.uk

We'll get you set up, and ready to mentor another aspiring professional. Thanks for your continued generosity and support!

You do not need to have attended university to mentor with us. However, most students on our programme aspire to go to university. We provide in-depth university support to students and it's beneficial if you can support this. If you haven't attended university, we will provide extra support about the university application process so you can support your mentee through this.

Search for your university. Can't find it? Enter 'Other.'

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) or Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) service checks the criminal record of someone applying for a role.

We'll conduct a check free of charge if you don't have a certificate from the past six months.

We'll do our best to match you with a mentee based on this information, but please note that we're not able to do this in all instances.

By signing up as a volunteer you are consenting to the SMF storing your data, contacting you, and using your data for the purposes of our mentoring and volunteering opportunities. If you volunteer as an mentor, you may receive related ad hoc requests such as a call out for speakers at student events.

By submitting this application form you agree and consent to the following:

✔️ You will undertake or provide an enhanced DBS or PVG background check (through us).
✔️ You will comply with our Safeguarding Policy.
✔️ You can commit to contacting your mentee for 30 minutes, every 2 weeks, for 9 months between April and January.
